Rhode Island Foundation

Annual Viewbook

The largest philanthropic organization in Rhode Island went out-of-house for a new strategic design. The challenge was to still reach out to their elderly donors (who would write scathing letters of wasting money on full-color brochures), and yet appeal to a new breed of younger donors who understood marketing and the competition for their dollars; legitimacy and success was where they wanted to put their investments.

Instead of just listing donors at the end like many organizations do, I took the names and made the whole greater than the parts. The list of donors became the concept of strength en masse and what could be accomplished “When You Are Inspired.” Sprinkled within the list of names were highlighted inspirational lines like, “Your wish to end suffering here, Your desire to end chronic poverty here…,” rather than simply, “Your name here.”
